Catalyst Connect

Thursday 16th January 2025

Hello everyone, I truly hope you all had quality time with your family and friends across Christmas and the New Year period. So, a couple of weeks into 2025 and my question is: Did you make any significant resolutions? Have you managed to stick to your goals/plans? It can be a bit disheartening to start with good intentions and eventually slip with the discipline to follow through. But if you did aim for something new or different, I trust you are tracking well and reaching that goal or well on the way to success. Keep up the good work. I guess it doesn’t matter when we make the choice to apply change in our life or develop better patterns or disciplines - Timing isn’t really the issue. It is always a good time to improve health, rearrange priorities, implement new disciplines and strive to be the best version of you. The “you” that best reflects the character and nature of Jesus!

My sincere hope is that 2025 will be “God’s time” to release His Spirit in each of our lives in new and fresh ways and that outpouring will impact each of us in such a deep way, that the lives of those around us will be significantly impacted. I read a statement the other day that really got me thinking: People are not “Christian” for two main reasons: 1. They have met a Christian or 2. They have not met a Christian. In other words, they have met a Christian and their influence + behaviour has turned them away. Or they have yet to meet a Christian, whose influence + behaviour will draw them to Christ.

Here’s a challenge for us all: In 2025, let us each aim to win just one person to Christ. Across the next 11 months, let’s ask the Lord to identify and connect us with one significant person the Holy Spirit highlights. Then let us influence them to want to discover what we have in our hearts and what we display in our lives - Jesus. An abundant life, a living hope, an unwavering joy and an eternal peace. Ipswich for Christ one soul at a time. Imagine if we all achieved that goal our Church family would double in a year. Impossible? No quite possible as we seek to love and serve others.

Blessings Mark

Change in 2025

Can we really change ourselves without some divine intervention and assistance, or is genuine and radical personal change really a myth? Why can some people change, and others cannot?

  1. Pain - Understand that pain will slowly and surely increase as the result of 'staying the same' with continuing to do 'what I've always done' is helpful in the change process. Accepting the pain of going against ourselves and our feelings and putting effort into whatever it is we want to change.
  2. Hope - That I can become my dream for myself, and that I can reach the ideal of myself which is my desire.
  3. How to - With truth, new insights, training and effectual and relevant understandings, not previously grasped or understood.
  4. Love - That somebody who is significant to me - will have the courage, the conviction and the compassion to challenge me and persuade me to change my course.
